El futur sense nom (no)

"The Future with No Name" is a documentary that begins with an anthropological question related to the current environmental and social crisis: “If the world as we know it were to end, what three objects would you hide in Mataró so that future inhabitants could find them and rebuild a new society?”

Through this question, the documentary explores the lives of sixteen users of Club Social Andana, a support space for those who have experienced homelessness or are at risk of social exclusion.

Through a collaborative creative process, the protagonists answer this question with analog photographs they have taken themselves, reflecting their perception of the world and the territory they inhabit. Their voices, recorded by themselves, offer a unique perspective on their experiences as we reflect on the importance of public space as a “home” and the significance of material objects for people pushed to the margins of society.

The documentary is the result of PAD Social, an initiative by Fundació Iluro and ADHOC Cultura, which uses digital arts to provide vulnerable groups with the opportunity to share their stories and exercise their cultural rights.

Director Biography - Lúa López Ribes

As a documentary filmmaker and photographer, my work focuses on using participatory photography to explore themes of identity, community, and social engagement. After studying Media in Barcelona and collaborating with Luksuz Produkcija in Slovenia, I developed a strong interest in projects that merge anthropology with visual storytelling. Through participatory methods, I aim to amplify the voices of marginalized groups, enabling them to share their stories through their own lens.

This approach is central to "The Future Without a Name", which grew from a question about identity, territory, and material culture: "If the world as we know it ended, which three objects would you hide in Mataró so future inhabitants could rebuild society?" The project involved participants from Club Social Andana, a space for those who have experienced homelessness or are at risk of social exclusion. Using analog photography, many participants—some of whom hadn’t used a camera in decades—explored their connection to their local environment, reflecting on the significance of objects and public spaces in shaping identity.

In this way, The Future Without a Name is more than just a documentary; it is a participatory process in which the participants become co-creators, exploring their relationship to their surroundings and contributing to a collective narrative about history, memory, and the future.
