Elena Calvo Calvo, is a Ukrainian-Costa Rican cartoonist and artist. She received her first artistic training at the Nemischaeve School of Music and Arts (Ukraine). When she was 12 old, she emigrated to Costa Rica. Elena studied Classical Philology and Philosophy at the University of Costa Rica (1998-2007) and Graphic Design and Web Pages at FUNDATEC (Technological Foundation of Costa Rica).
In 2009, she assist to the short Stop Motion animation lab at the Autonomous University of Central America (UACA).
From 2003 to 2010 she works with the MEP teaching Spanish in Costa Rican schools (CONED, New oportunities, etc.) During the years 2010-2011 she teaches courses in his philological specialty at Costa Rican universities (UCR, UNED, Hispanoamerican University and UAM).
But in 2011 Elena decided to dedicate herself to animation, for which purpose she traveled to Russia and studied classical animation at the Schar School-Studio (2011-2014). For 9 years (2013-2022) she works as a designer, animator, storyboarder and animation director at the Pilot studio, the first and largest private studio in the Soviet Union. At the same time she occasionally collaborates with other studios such as Parovoz and Soyuzmultfilm, teaches animation to children and adults in numerous workshops in Moscow, Siberia and Italy and in university courses at the Institute of Business & Design, a prestigious design university in Moscow. Also during these years Elena frequently has courses on Animation Direction and Script for Animated Series, in Soyuzmultfilm.
In 2022 because the war between Russia and Ukraine, she has returned to Costa Rica and teaches Stop Motion courses at the Veritas University and other institutions.
