Director Biography - Holden Barker

Holden Barker is a student director at Chapman University who started "Eldritch Roommate" as a platform for him and his peers to get hands-on set experience.

And with a team of more than 20 students working over 7 months of production with more than 12 writer’s rooms, 19 rehearsals, 20 production meetings, and 23 shoot days, the team sure did get a lot of this hands-on experience.
And while mistakes were made and hard times were plenty, Eldritch Roommate eventually went from a team of amateurs with a dream to a team of slightly more confident amateurs with something to show for their hard work. And they cannot be more proud.

Director Statement

Eldritch Roommate, as a series, is about the price of success.
Why do we shoot for perfection, and what do sacrifice to get there? How does one survive a world that rewards greed and avarice without becoming a monster themselves?

These were the kinds of questions I wanted to tackle with Eldritch Roommate. Even though these themes are imposed with a comedic lens and a magical evil genie, the very nature of the villainous "Box" begs the question: what is the downside of desire?
