Writer Biography - Alejandro Lalinde

Born in San Jose, Costa Rica, Alejandro grew up in North Carolina after moving to the United States in 1985. A high school teacher reinforced his passion for black and white still photography and introduced him to the works of such photographers as Ansel Adams, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and Edward Weston. Still photography led to the moving image and a further interest into the art and technical side of motion picture cinema.

After graduating from the Academy of Art - San Francisco, he began to work in Los Angeles as a camera assistant, focus puller, operator, and now an award winning cinematographer. His collaboration with clients include Oracle, Microsoft, Toyota, Ford, Fenty, Ralph Lauren, Revlon, eBay, American Express, T-Mobile, MLB, Disney, Hulu, HBO, Warner Bros, NBC/Universal, Capitol Records, and Atlantic Records, among others. He has photographed high profile artists such as John Travolta, The Rock, Kim Kardashian, Ansel Elgort, Halle Berry, Rihanna, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden, Moby, and Marc Anthony to name a few. This latino-born filmmaker also has work on the exhibition at the new LAX Tom Bradley International Terminal on the 'Welcome' and 'Bon Voyage' walls (Moment Factory/LAX). He has been featured in American Cinematographer Magazine for his work on the music video for the UK band Keane. In 2019, the short film Slipping Into Darkness won the prestigious Best Film at the Official Latino Film and Arts Festival (Deadline Article) and was selected to stream on all HBO platforms.

Alejandro became a 2023 finalist in the prestigious CDDP (Commercial Directors Diversity Program). The Commercial Directors Diversity Program was created during contract talks between the AICP (Association of Independent Commercial Producers) and the DGA (Directors Guild of America). The CDDP reflects the commitment of both organizations to effect change and increase the representation of minority and women directors specializing in commercials and marketing communications. This program opens new doors and avenues toward up and coming commercial directors and major worldwide production companies who are supporting sponsors of the program.

Alejandro believes in the narrative form, and revealing the subtleties of the characters and stories through light, shadow, and the juxtaposition of the subject within the frame.
