Egyptian Geese

"Do you ever worry about how much violence you have inside you?" On her daily lockdown walks, a woman becomes fascinated by a glamorous yet aggressive breed of waterfowl.

Formed of four years of repurposed iPhone footage shot in local parks, cemeteries and wetlands, EGYPTIAN GEESE is a darkly comic personal essay about intrusive thoughts, the importance of little walks, and the magnificence of female rage in the natural world. And some really sexy geese.

Written, directed and edited by Sarah Morgan. Performed by Margaret Cabourn Smith. Original music by Tim Bazell and vocalist Holly Henderson.

Director Statement

Egyptian Geese was filmed over four years on little mental health walks in the green spaces of Tottenham and Walthamstow. When I decided to make my first short film, I used what I had to hand - favours I could call in from the massively talented actor Margaret Cabourn Smith and musicians Tim Bazell and Holly Henderson, some past trauma, and a f*ckton of geese videos. I wrote the script, got Margaret to read it and Tim to score it, taught myself very basic editing (whaddup, Youtube fam) and made my first film for next to nothing (but not actually nothing, because pay your performers).
