Director Biography - Carmen Lilian Ike-Okoro

Carmen Lilian Ike-Okoro believes that films act as reminders of what we miss as we pursue our wants and desires in life. She wants her stories to shine a light on the darkness of the world. Through her films, she hopes to remind us that there is magic within us; that we don’t need to escape, but instead, be fully present in every moment.

Lilian ventured into filmmaking as a guest director in the AMVCA ’23 nominated web series "When Are We Getting Married," marking her semi-directorial debut.

In early 2022, she embarked on her second directing project, overseeing the creation of a TV spot titled "Over and Over" for TBWA, specifically targeting women dealing with domestic violence. This project showcased her ability to effectively convey important messages through visual storytelling.

In May 2023, she co-directed "Shina," a feature-length film that debuted on Netflix Nigeria in 2024.

The following year, she took on her first role as a documentary director for CGTN with "Senegal: A Legend is Born," which explored the revered sport of wrestling in Senegal known as La Lutte (Now on YouTube). That same year, she directed her first solo feature-length film, "Egun," which earned a nomination for an AMVCA (African Magic Viewers Choice Awards) in 2024.

As 2023 came to a close, she won the NEWF Producers Pitch Award at the AFRIFF Globe Awards for her story, "The Sunken Place."

She continues to aim to shift the storytelling world as she explores every aspect of life.
