Ayoung Kim is a Korean filmmaker born in Busan. She went to China at the age of 16, studied advertising in Peking University and worked as an assistant to producer at QingYi Productions. She moved to Toronto, Canada in 2017. Most of her contributions in films to this date have been as a Writer, Producer, Director and Assistant Director.
According to the article from The Daily Telegraph written by Caroline Zielinski, "The meaning of marriage is so deeply rooted in patriarchy and gender inequality, that, in the modern sense, it does not make sense for a young woman to tie the knot unless she has a partner willing to reject all traditional overtures of marriage."
Like she wrote, traditional marriage needs serious intervention. We are still in the middle of a huge change, many young women, including myself, are confused about what to do in terms of marriage - do I need to keep my last name, how about my husband and kids taking my last name, do I need to be the main caregiver, etc.
Since horror is the most powerful film genre when it comes to reveal any absurdity of the current society, I wanted to discover what women actually signed up for when she said "yes" to a proposal in the form of a short horror film. I want this short to catch enough young women's eyes to raise a healthy discussion on this matter.
