PRODUCER'S STATEMENT!

Dear Audience,
EGGDATE was created with the purpose of celebrating how two very different cultures, when put together, can create something very positive, fun and unique. It’s been my pleasure to merge the British and Latino cultures while producing EGGDATE. EGGDATE is an absurdist comedy about a Latina living in London and what happens when her partner drops a few sea monkey eggs in their bathtub.
The journey of feeling at home in a country culturally vastly different from the one you grew up in takes time and I hope that through EGGDATE, more latinos can feel at home in the UK. While watching EGGDATE, you can spot the ceramic guinea pig wearing a Peruvian national football t-shirt, a bottle of tequila with a Mexican hat, and latin tunes to set the mood of home away from home.
Moreover, EGGDATE also tackles mental health and being able to be there for others. The character, Fierro, goes through a loss, and he’s feeling very sad (albeit comically so). Priscilla at first doesn’t catch this, but because she cares about Fierro (not the sea monkeys so much) she’s able to put herself aside and be there physically and emotionally next to Fierro through his grief. I believe we can be like Priscilla: be kind to those close to us, even if they're emotionally or culturally worlds apart.
In addition and in line with feminism too, Fierro is able to cry, and be confident in releasing emotions. Priscilla is there, holding the space for him. Furthermore, Fierro is the half of the partnership that harbors paternal/maternal attachment. During writing Fierro and Priscilla were swapped genders quite a few times.
Ultimately it’s meant to draw smiles in our cherished audiences' faces.

Sincerely,

Laura and EGGDATE team
