Edie Meyers, a multiple national Telly® Award winning producer, and author, is originally from Danbury, Connecticut. She now lives in the Northern Virginia-DC area. Ms. Meyers produces the continuing television series Star Crash® using the television studios at Arlington Independent Media (AIM) in Arlington, Virginia and DCTV in Washington, D.C.
In the early 1990's, Ms. Meyers had been involved in America's first historic gay soap opera television productions produced through Channel 10 Fairfax, in Fairfax, Virginia. These soaps were distributed to local community tv stations across America. Based on her experience both in management and appearances on these shows, she applied the "soap opera" genre to sci fi. She noted that despite the heavy financial investments in these early gay soap operas, the clothing styles, cars and scenery were outdated by the following year. Technically, she reasoned the production value of a soap opera type tv production would hold up and be more valuable with futuristic sci fi costumes and set designs. Also in making a soap opera style tv production, it needed to appeal to a wider audience. This is how Star Crash® was first envisioned by Edie Meyers.
Growing up Ms. Meyers loved to watch Gerry Anderson's Fireball XL5, Supercar and Capt. Scarlet. Those were her influences. Her Star Crash® is a series of 30 minute specials. It was first written by Edie Meyers in 1994, first copyrighted and aired in April of 1995. Star Crash® is a registered service mark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office as a women's sci fi television series. The initial theme of Star Crash® was that an artificial meteor was packed with a virus by an alien species, and hit the Earth destroying all males. Recent scientific programs on tv now suggest this is a possibility. However, Ms. Meyers came up with this theory 25 years ago! The show airs in Arlington, VA, Washington, DC, NYC, the Capital District of Albany-Schenectady, NY, and Atlanta Georgia. Most of these stations simultaneously web stream Star Crash® via the world wide web when each show is released and distributed by them.
The 2019 production has been recently released and is a sequel to the 2017 episode. When the show first began at Channel 10 Fairfax, in Virginia, the original set designer David Petry made hand built stage sets and papier mache props. As we moved the show to Channel 33/69 in Arlington, Virginia, we transitioned to digital set backgrounds and also utilized miniatures sets. We have also experimented with techniques such as claymations on the show. Arlington Independent Media is now carried by Channels 35 and 69 locally via Fios and Comcast cable. Over the years we have had a stable and devoted technical crew, and long term dedicated actresses.
Edie Meyers is also the Executive Director of Star Crash®. Our current Directors are Cam Pippett and Erik Morrison. Erik had previously directed Star Crash® in the early 1990's. Cam had been a long term Technical Director who became Director in the past few years.. Note in order to direct at AIM one must be certified on AIM's studio equipment. Both also have theatrical acting experience. Other long term technical crew include Kathy Overton, Mary Fantucchio, Kate Williams, Heff Munson and Paul Mahood. The directors, editors, and technical crew have consistently devoted their time to achieve high production values for the show. Our integrity and most especially, the trust we have placed in each other are core factors in continuing to receive support for the show. The support we have received is greatly appreciated. Star Crash® has drawn from the local theatrical community in the Washington, DC area. Some of our actresses such as Dani Englander (Hollywood East) and Elizabeth Saint (Ghosts of Shepherdstown) started out on Star Crash®. David Petry, our original set designer from 1995 is in Hollywood making stage sets on various sci fi films including The Matrix.
