Director Statement

As the director of "EDELEYO," my intent is to craft a cinematic experience that transcends the boundaries of a traditional historical drama. This film is not just about recounting history but exploring the greatness of a heroine-past.
The theme is Self-sacrifice and fate.
At its core, ‘EDELEYO’ is a celebration of untold story of the self-sacrifice made by Princess Edeleyo, as she gave up her nomination, when the delay that left the Benin throne without an Oba exposed it to disintegration because of dissidents led by Elekidi.
It also shows the power of fate in the affairs of humans irrespective of their statuses.
To bring this powerful narrative to life, I intend to immerse the audience in the rich and vibrant world of the ancient Benin Empire. Our visual approach will be rooted in authenticity, from the costumes and sets to the landscapes and rituals. We will capture the raw beauty of the African continent and employ a dynamic camera style that transports the audience into the heart of the action.
Because ‘EDELEYO’ is a character-driven story. Our characters, will be portrayed with depth . We will delve into their personal struggles, dreams, and sacrifices, making them relatable to audiences worldwide.
The film's musical score will draw inspiration from the rich traditions of Benin (African) music, using rhythms and melodies to underscore the characters' emotional arcs. Sound design will transport viewers and immerse them in the tension and triumph of each moment.
