Echoes of Her (Fluxus Museum)

Title: Echoes of Her
Artist: WarNugget666
Genre: Psychological Thriller/Horror
Logline: A seemingly charming but deeply disturbed serial killer kidnaps women who resemble “her,” the one who got away. Locking them away in a hidden, soundproof room within his apartment. Exposing them to weeks of psychological manipulation until something doesn’t align perfectly, and the voices within his mind remind him that he will never be good enough for “her.” His mind begins to spiral, and he starts to dissociate which ultimately leads to his victim’s death, completely unaware of the mess, until the dissociation lifts to find himself covered in blood. Each victim experiences complete darkness for days at a time, waking only to find that a single lamp hangs in the center of the room, startled to find a masked man lingering within the shadows, patiently studying his prey. His obsession with masks stems from the feeling of being ashamed and powerless against the woman who broke his heart. He withholds food, water and basic needs, slowly breadcrumbing incentives that force dependency. This dependency creates a bond, the feeling that this man is their only security. His small acts of kindness force his victims to develop an emotional attachment or even loyalty towards him. Their minds so debilitated that even when given the chance to escape, they refuse to run. He conditions his victims to accept their captivity as part of a twisted fantasy, he dresses them and grooms them in a mirror image of “her.” This pattern of the serial killer’s obsession is repeated in a never-ending cycle, until his mind snaps, killing his victim in the process. He will soon find out that his latest victim is different.
Theme: Echoes of Her explores the dehumanizing effects of manipulation, trauma bonding, and Stockholm syndrome. It delves into the psychological unraveling of a victim and the dark psychology of a captor who manipulates love and respect into a weapon.
Setting: A dimly lit, sparsely decorated apartment. The atmosphere is heavy with stillness, the kind of silence that feels almost too deliberate. The walls are plain, the furniture minimal, there is no warmth to this place, everything feels functional, intentionally impersonal. As we make our way through the apartment, we linger on a wooden door near the back of the apartment, just a plain door, ordinary at first, but there is an unmistakable sense of mystery with the multiple locks that keep this door firmly in place. When he opens the door, it reveals a dim narrow room, with no windows, only a single low-hanging lamp that casts harsh shadows along the walls and huddled in the corner is his latest victim.
Characters:
Jackson Leone (The Captor) A 36-year-old, well-spoken man with an aura of confidence which exacerbates his facade of normalcy. Jackson appears outwardly kind and eccentric, but underneath, he is an obsessive manipulator with a deep need for control. As we peel back layer by layer of his perfectly crafted psyche we start to view Jackson beneath a different lens. He sees himself as a dominant and expects total submission and adoration from his victims. His motives for kidnapping stems from his love for the “girl who got away,” his victims always resemble the woman who broke his heart. He searches for her in every new victim, hoping that this time will be different, that she won’t leave him. He always felt like he was never good enough for her, and tried everything to keep her love, but she left him in the end and something inside of him snapped –his need to dominate women and the complete control he gains over their minds is what drives him. The control that he lost, when he lost the woman that he thought he could never live without.
Cecelia Hart (The Victim) A 35-year-old novelist who becomes Jackson’s latest victim. Intelligent, strong-willed, but emotionally vulnerable, Cecelia’s past suggests a longing for validation, someone who gets her, she’s always felt like an outsider, an introvert who finds it hard to meet new people. Jackson’s charm immediately makes her think that he’s different from other men, his compassion and consideration make her feel at ease immediately upon meeting him at a local bar, little does she know that this meeting is not random, he’s been stalking her for days. Her first impression of Jackson is that he’s a perfect gentleman, but he hides a deep seeded secret that will change her life forever.

Director Statement

As a first-time film artist, I’m still exploring the depth of my passion as well as testing the boundaries of my art. I once read that in order to discover true potential and beauty in what you do, you have to start by creating something real, taking the risk, not knowing if you will succeed or fail. Sensorial imagery has always been my primary focus; forcing my audience to see, hear and feel my message, while exploring the depth of my mind’s darker nature. My goal is to reach my audience on a deeper level, exposing our fragile existence, teetering on the delicate balance between light and dark, good and evil, while asking the bigger question, what really is good or evil? Do those concepts truly exist, and how often do people pull back the surface of our facades to expose the truth that lies beneath? What gives us the strength to fight our demons? I’m not everyone’s cup of tea, but I do believe that we all silently battle with demons in one way or another, and my goal when producing art will always be to teach others that they are never alone.
