ECHOES (PTSD, THE IMPACT OF WAR ON CHILDREN)
Millions of children are being raised in the chaos of war. Living in violent, terrorized environments and experiencing such horrors as destruction of their homes, relocation and the death of parents, siblings, and neighbours
Today, the mental health of children living in conflict is more at-risk than ever. More than 14% of children worldwide are estimated to have a mental health disorder. But less than 1% of funding on global health goes to address children's mental health and well-being.
Urge Congress to pass the MINDS Act
The Mental Health in International Development and Humanitarian Settings (MINDS) Act (H.R.3988/S.2105) is bipartisan and the first-ever piece of legislation that would promote mental health and psychosocial support as a key component of U.S. foreign assistance.

Director Biography - Barry Berger, Trina Noel Davis

Barry Shane Berger was born in Denver, Colorado. An avid reader in his adolescence, Barry's gravitated to science fiction and fantasy stories that would take him to other worlds. Entering adulthood and finding less time for reading non-technical works, his love of music and the sounds of life around him became his vehicle of escape. It may have been fate that guided him toward an early career as a SONAR technician where many a watch was spent listening to and envisioning the myriad of sounds living beneath the ocean waves. His ability to become lost and immersed in these sounds would prove to influence fundamental life choices to the present.

The introduction of virtual reality to the masses provided a fresh avenue to explore creativity that is both immersive and without boundaries when used with available tools. It is this experience that has, after decades dedicated to technical aspirations, brought him back to not more fully explore his interests in storytelling, film creation and digital art.

Director Statement

"Echoes" is the culmination of a collaborative effort of many people, several of which were likely unaware that their artistic effort would contribute so much to this particular project. Credit for the imagination and effort in the creation of the virtual simulators in which "Echoes" was filmed can not be overstated. It was this effort that helped provide a catalyst and inspiration and served as the backdrop for the collaboration between Ms. Davis and myself.

The unquenchable curiosity of Ms. Davis to find these simulators in tandem with the breakout of war in Ukraine came together as an opportunity to somehow add in some minuscule way, more light on the tragedies of violence of all forms. It is the youngest among us that pay the heaviest prices for the misunderstandings and greed of the oldest who should know better.
