Experiencing Interruptions?

Echo

What is the boundary between perception and reality?

"Echo" is a thesis video project that explores this theme through the interplay of senses, emotions, and the environment. It originates from research on multisensoriality and primal instinct, key concepts of Oltre, the collection created in the final year of university by Alessia Ancillotti, designer and creative director of the video. As senses overlap and coexist, they intensify each other, generating an exchange of information, creating an amplified perceptual experience.

"Echo" symbolizes the propagation of a voice, a thought that collides with the environment, becomes altered, and returns—representing an exchange of information between subject and space. Through fluid yet tense improvisational movement, the human figure is portrayed as a primal being, stripped of societal structures. The garments blend into the landscape, forging a deep connection between material and nature. The soundtrack, merging atmospheric and material sounds, intensifies progressively until it reaches an obsessive, immersive rhythm.

A key reference is the Gaga technique, developed by choreographer Ohad Naharin: a movement language based on the intensification of sensations, which has become revolutionary in contemporary dance.

"Echo" seeks to engage the viewer, leading them on a sensory and psychological journey toward a state of heightened awareness, an immersive experience that transcends conventional perception.

What is the boundary between perception and reality?

When we observe the world around us, we take for granted that it is concrete and solid, without considering the process of perception. But what we believe to be true is merely our model of reality, the way we understand the world.
