Earth Song

Tommaso was born in Milan in 1989 and began studying the piano at 6 years of age due to his curiosity at the music sheets of his great grandfather Antonio Sabino, who was the orchestra director of the La Scala Theatre in the 1920s.

“My parents aren’t musicians, but they are lovers of music and we always breathed music at home, especially classical and jazz. They have always backed me in everything, years of sacrifice and investments. I‘ve been truly lucky in this and I will always be grateful to them for it!”

In 1998 he was admitted to Milan’s civic school and began his all-round musical path that in 2001 would lead him to being admitted to Milan’s Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory with the highest of marks in the piano. In parallel to this, thanks to his uncle Marco Sabino, he developed a passion for the world of video and direction that would take him further forward to experimenting artistically in this field-
In 2003, due to a scholastic obligation, he was forced to choose a second instrument.

“The Saxophone was the coolest! It was the only instrument that made we want to study.”

He was admitted to the G. Verdi Conservatory’s saxophone class with maestro Marco Bontempo who would follow him for all his musical growth.

“Marco Bontempo was a great teacher for me, an important musical father. He didn’t just teach me to play the sax, he inadvertently sparked my passion for teaching and musical pedagogy. Even though he wasn’t a jazz player he always helped me to cultivate my passion.”

In 2004 Tommaso was dazzled by Jazz music after seeing a concert by the Paolo Fresu Quartet. He understood that the direction to take was that of Jazz!
He began to play in various groups, jazz, pop, R&B, and began to grind out dozens of concerts in all of Italy. In the meantime, the call of Jazz music was very strong. He began a parallel study path at the Conservatory with Paolo Tomelleri.
He attended a number of Jazz seminars with important musicians at Castell’Arquato, Umbria, Rome and Rimini. Over the years he attended master classes with: Jean Marie Londeix, Eugene Rosseau, Rosario Giuliani, Jerry Bergonzi, Dado Moroni and Maurizio Giammarco.

“I adore classical music. I grew up on bread and Mozart. I couldn’t live without Bach, Beethoven and Debussy. It was this very love and study for classical music that led me to better understanding all the other kinds of music, such as Jazz. I believe that the best jazz players are those who studied classical music or in any case know the classical music tradition.”

In parallel with the concerts he became more and more passionate about teaching his extraordinary instrument. He won a scholarship to teach for 2 years at the Conservatory’s middle school and subsequently 3 years as a specialist at the Montessori School.
In 2010 he released his first record “Phil Woods Sonata” in which he interprets in his own way the famous sonata by the saxophonist Phil Woods, overdubbing the parts on the piano and saxophone.
In 2011 after the publication of a series of tutorials on YouTube on learning the sax he opened a recording studio where he founded a sax school attended by people from all of Italy.
Taken by the concert activity and by various artistic activities he decided to found a sax school that is totally online and today “VSAXOPHONE.com” is recognized at the portal of reference in all of Italy with hundreds of video courses sold and daily accesses.

In July 2018, after nearly 3 years of silence, the musical work in 17 acts “Apocalypse” was released. There were 16 tracks and “Earth Song”, a great homage to Michael Jackson, composed, arranged and played entirely by Tommaso. The work was released with a good 7 video clips in which Tommaso Vivaldi carried out the direction and editing.
“Very slowly I understood that it was no longer possible for me to play only classical music and only jazz, I needed a change. “Crossover “music close to the world of soundtracks was what fascinated and excited me most.”
From 2003 to 2014 he took part in various international competitions winning a number of special critics’ prizes and performed on many cultural events. In 2007 he was the artistic director of “Musica per la Vita” (Music for Life) together with his colleague and saxophonist friend Stefano Papa.

In June 2019 the video for “Code Vs Human”, taken from “Apocalypse”, reached the final of the “Artefici del nostro Tempo” (Creators of our Time) competition in collaboration with the Venice Biennale, thus entering the 2019 catalog.

Today Tommaso Vivaldi works on artistic, musical and theatrical projects and film direction. “The King of Sax” is about to be released. This is a record for Sax and Symphonic Orchestra totally dedicated to Michael Jackson.
