Your writers are a team - two literary L.A. ladies, Arielle and Cherilyn, (30s) - and Marty, (80), with his story to tell. After a hitch in the U.S. Air Force, his ‘59 BSA motorcycle took him to L.A. and from ‘64 to ‘69 carried him up and down the West Coast from Venice to Big Sur to Haight Ashbury and back again. He was around to enjoy the confluence of the First Space Race, the Psychedelic Age, the Sexual Revolution, Rock ‘n’ Roll, and unfortunately, also the Vietnam War and Pentagon Papers era.

Writer Statement

The year is 2055 and the first completed space habitat is receiving its new residential population. Matriarch Marilyn Richards and her great-granddaughter Aurora are observing the new arrivals when they arrest a stowaway intruder in the crowd who warns them that there are saboteurs aboard.

We flashback to 1960 when the 20-year-old Marilyn [nee’] Harvey decides to escape the Midwest family farm and an unhappy marriage. She secretly boards a bus alone for an education, a business career, and a birth-control prescription in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, Marilyn’s future client and paramour, U.S. Air Force Capt. Carl Richards lands his jet and is devastated when told that his eye-sight is not good enough to qualify him for X-15 text pilot duty.

Marilyn lives at the L.A. YWCA and goes to school at USC and then to a prime job with a Beverly Hills stock brokerage where she has an obligatory affair with her lecherous married boss and falls in love at first sight with that new client, CEO Carl Richards.

Marilyn is successful in helping Carl’s company float an IPO and learns that he and his friends have some odd theories about what sex and marriage will be like in space and that he will soon endanger, and end his life in the X-15 crash.

Back in 2055, the Eutopia Haven Senate puts Dina, the young female intruder on trial for violating their protocols. She informs them that a religious cult near MIT wants to destroy them because they believe that space travel is godless and that their church is not welcome on Eutopia Haven.

A 1960s Space Race tech company makes plans for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness aboard humanity's first city-scale orbiting space habitat but it will take catastrophe and almost a century to realize them.
