ETHNOVIDEOGRAPHIC 2021 – INTERNATIONAL ETHNOVIDEOGRAPHIC FESTIVAL is born as a festival dedicated to the multiple expressions of ethnographic documentary, from a wide range of ethical and social commitments with the great diversity of sociocultural backgrounds throughout the world. The Festival intends to reflect the human, cultural and social diversity of our planet.
We understand ethnographic documentary in a wide and interdisciplinary sense as any audiovisual production which main purpose is to show different cultural, social, political, historical, aesthetic and economical realities existing in the world we all share.
DUE TO GLOBAL COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THE OFFICIAL SECTION AND THE CASTILLA Y LEÓN SECTION OF THE FESTIVAL CAN BE ENJOYED IN PERSON AND ONLINE FROM A DIGITAL PLATFORM MANAGED OR SUPERVISED BY THE ETHNOGRAPHIC MUSEUM OF CASTILLA Y LEÓN (MECYL) FROM 11TH TO 18TH DECEMBER 2021 IN ITS FIFTH EDITION.
Three prizes will be awarded:
- Jury Cowbell to the best ethnographic audiovisual work, consisting of a cowbell intervened by an emerging artist of Castilla y León, a HD Video Projector and a diploma.
- Regional Cowbell to the best documentary produced in Castilla y León, consisting of a cowbell intervened by an emerging artist of Castilla y León, a HD Video Projector and a diploma.
- Audience Cowbell to the film most acclaimed by festival screening audiences, consisting of a cowbell intervened by an emerging artist of Castilla y León, a HD Video Projector and a diploma.
All works produced after 1st of January 2019, with a minimum duration of 5 minutes and a maximum duration of 90 minutes may enter the Festival competition. Works whose authors are involved in the festival organisation or with touristic or advertising purposes will not be accepted in the festival competition.
Each director will be allowed to submit a maximum of two documentaries.
Films must be submitted in original version. When original language is not Spanish, Spanish subtitles must be included or embedded in the digital file of the film.
Assesment criteria will be relevance, the capacity of the documentaries to foster reflection and critical thinking in general audiences, and technical, aesthetic and scientific quality, as well as experimentation and innovation.
The deadline of submission will be 15th of October 2021 at 23:59 Spanish time.
Inscriptions will be carried out online, through any of these platforms www.clickforfestivals.com and www.filmfreeway.com, filling out all compulsory forms and uploading the files, with the requested subtitles attached.
Participants who are unable to submit their application online, due to their geographic location or local conflicts in their area or because of any other important cause will be able to email their application to email@example.com
MOVIES WILL ONLY BE ACCEPTED IN SCREENING FORMAT, HIGH DEFINITION DIGITAL FILES. DVDS OR OTHER PHYSICAL FORMATS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
The Festival Direction will constitute a Selection Committee formed by film students, professionals and experts who will carry out the viewing, analysis and assessment of all the works submitted.
This Selection Committee will be in charge of selecting the films that will be part of the Official Section and the Castilla y León Section of the Festival program.
At the end of the selection procedure, the Festival will communicate its decision to the selected participants via e-mail. Once their participation is confirmed, the Festival will publish the selected films’ list on its web http://www.museo-etnografico.com.
Once the film information is included in the catalogue, films may not be unilaterally removed from the competition.
Selected applicants will be informed before 15th November 2021 (although, this date may be postponed according to the needs of the Organisation), and they will have to submit, within the following 10 day a screening copy of the documentary film, indicating title, file format, screen and sound format and information for the catalogue.
The producer/distributor must provide the Festival with a press kit containing three photographs and poster, trailer and any other additional materials which may be considered convenient for the Festival to promote the film properly.
The selected documentaries will become part of the Festival archives and may be used for private viewing or for educative and research purposes.
The selected documentaries will become part of the MECYL film archive. The museum will regulate their exhibition, screening and broadcasting, always for non-profit educational and cultural purposes, except if the applicant has declared the opposite on the subscription form.
The MECYL may programme screenings outside of the Festival including not-selected materials which may be considered of interest, always communicating such circumstance to the legitimate authors.
The Festival Direction will report to film owners or agents any irregularity found in the movie files and reserves the right to reject copies unsuitable for screening according to the assesment of the Festival technical department.
A screening copy of the selected films must be submitted in a high definition digital file. The Festival will only accept files suitable for screening. The Festival must receive the screening copy before 25th November 2021.
The screening copy must be submitted together with its title, file format, screen ratio and type of sound. The producer/distributor must provide the Festival with information and advertising material ("press kit", 3 photos and poster), trailer and any other materials which may be considered convenient for the Festival to promote the film appropriately.
The original film submitted for screening must coincide exactly with the film submitted in the selection process. The failure to meet this requirement will be cause of exclusion of the film from the Festival.
The Direction of ETHNOVIDEOGRAPHIC 2021 – INTERNATIONAL ETHNOGRAPHIC FESTIVAL will choose the Jury members among professional from audiovisual, ethnographic and cultural backgrounds. The Jury’s decisions are unappealable and they will be published in the official Festival website.
The Jury will be formed by three prestigious personalities from the cinematographic, audiovisual, anthropologic and cultural fields.
The Jury reserves the right to award extraordinary awards which it considers convenient, as well as to not award some of the three official prizes listed above. There may only be one single winner for each award.
For the promotion of the Festival, ETHNOVIDEOGRAPHIC 2021 – INTERNATIONAL ETHNOGRAPHIC FESTIVAL is authorised to publish on the media a sample of the selected films of a maximum duration of three minutes.
After the finalization of the festival, ETHNOVIDEOGRAPHIC 2021 – INTERNATIONAL ETHNOGRAPHIC FESTIVAL may use the selected works in exhibitions and cultural and educational programmes, always without economical profit and with previous communication to the authors.
Applicants are responsible for the authorship and originality of the films submitted, exempting the Festival from any responsibility about their contents.
The submission of a documentary film is equivalent to the acceptance of these basis, which interpretation and implementation correspond solely to the Organisation.
These basis will be published in Spanish and English. May any doubts in their interpretation arise, the text of reference will be the Spanish one.
