I have been a documentary filmmaker for over forty years, inspired to tell stories of extraordinary people whose lives and work provide insights into our history and our future.
Two years ago, I decided to look inward and began interviewing my father- a man whose values and beliefs have influenced me to become the person I am today.
As we filmed my father, I realized that his life and work would resonate to people of all generations. His story is about ideas and vision, creativity and independence, and the fortitude to challenge obstacles and succeed. This is why I made EDDY'S WORLD.
My father is the child of immigrants who fled oppression in Europe and survived the Great Depression. He volunteered for the submarine service during World War II, and chose the uncertain life of an independent toy inventor to fulfill his dreams.
While he achieved success as a toy inventor, I admire him as much for his grace in aging. At 98 years old, he is creative and curious, embracing new technologies, writing stories that capture the memories of his life, and still inventing.
EDDY’S WORLD is more than the memoir of one man’s life. It is a story of the importance of play and how toys help bring families together. And it is story of aging and the importance of keeping one’s mind active and engaged. I believe that this film can provide an opportunity for audiences young and old to engage in a conversation about the creative process, the importance of play, and the power of optimism.
