Shokat Harjo is an actor, filmmaker, and producer at Honning Film, originally from Kobane in Rojava, northern Syria. He is Kurdish and speaks fluent Norwegian, English, Kurdish, and Arabic, as well as proficient Turkish. His artistic journey began at an early age, driven by a profound desire to make a meaningful impact. Despite growing up in a village where English wasn't spoken, Shokat taught himself the language at just nine years old by watching James Bond films.
In 2012, Shokat's life was forever altered when he was injured during a civil war attack by ISIS on his village.
Since his arrival in Norway in December 2015, Shokat has fully dedicated himself to his acting career, earning both a bachelor's degree and a diploma in acting. Now fluent in five languages, he made his feature film debut in Gritt (2019) and appeared at the Norwegian Theatre in 2022. Beyond acting, Shokat founded Honning Film and has produced short films as well as the play Hull at the Norwegian Theatre in 2023.
His recent work includes roles in the Netflix series Billionaire Island and the short films Last Stop and I Walked Alone.
Shokat Harjo continues to build his career as an actor and filmmaker, embodying resilience and determination, a testament to someone who refuses to be defined by borders.
