Director Statement

Tell us a bit about your background, how did this come to be? My musical skills come from the 8 years I spent studying music and violin when I was a kid. And conceptually, D!G is highly influenced by the events of 9/11 and how the World changed afterwards. Also by the current western dominant neoliberal system and its consequences on society and the environment around the planet.

Could you explain the ‘Live Cinema’ concept? Live cinema is born when synchronicity and reaction between video and audio are created in real time making narrative cinematography. D!G syncs audio frequencies with video effects using analogue distortion pedals and a laptop.

Which film style does "Dystopia Utopia" follow? Dystopia Utopia has a collage film style. It takes visual material from different sources, making a distinct and original whole by deconstructing the sources taken, adding effects and editing it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collage_film

What about the name Die! Goldstein? where does that come from? Written in English, it comes from George Orwell’s book 1984. The famous Big Brother has an enemy, Emmanuel Goldstein towards whom the people are obligated to demonstrate hatred. It is a metaphor about how power manipulates the opinion of people by focusing their minds on a real or invented enemy, distracting them from the important problems.

You have already been touring the project for some years now, and it’s still going on now? Dystopia Utopia is an updated ongoing project. Since it started, the content of the video it has been changed for every concert, refreshing it with current global issues. Also, music has evolved in the last years. Therefore every performance is a new and fresh show.
