Dutchess of the Sea

Four Dutch women in their fifties row across the Atlantic Ocean together in their pink rowing boat, during the world's toughest rowing race: the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge. It is a test of endurance both physically and mentally as they face their personal fears and flaws, while needing to rely on each other completely.

Director Biography - Mayke Pels, Sanne Kranenborg

In recent years, Sanne Kranenborg and Mayke Pels have worked as creative producers on a variety of films, TV programs and corporate productions in The Netherlands. In 2020 they started to work together - at production company NOBS in Arnhem - where they created the intimate TV series 'In my heart' (In mijn hart), that portrays people who have passed away through the eyes of their loved ones. After this, with the knowledge and experience they have gained, they felt that it was time for the next step in their ambitions. Together they started an independent collective, focused on telling real stories of women, to inspire other women. Dutchess of the Sea is their first project within this collective. As documentary filmmakers they developed, produced and directed the film together.
