My Name is Duc Bao Bui, i’m a german filmmaker with vietnamese background. As someone who has experienced conflicts in understanding and combining both worlds, film and filmmaking have always been mediums for me to communicate and connect with people.
After completing my bachelor's degree, I have been working in the German film industry since 2016. I have participated in over 20 normal budget projects since then, primarily in the Director's Department (Assistant Director and Script & Continuity roles). Given that, I have acquired a strong ability to communicate effectively with each department and a keen focus on identifying and rectifying mistakes.
For my directorial journey, I draw inspiration from my background in painting and dancing. My experience in painting has nurtured a keen understanding of visual composition, moods, and atmosphere. Likewise, my passion for dancing has honed my sense of rhythm and timing, heightened my awareness of body movement, and deepened my ability of understanding conveying emotions in momentun.
My artistic approach as a director is to create harmonious and emotionally resonant narratives. I'm interested in human psychology, exploring identity (home and belonging), memory, perception, and the nature of reality. Additionally, I aim to showcase social issues through commentary on the relationship between individuals and society, as well as the effects of power structures and societal norms on people's lives. To achieve these goals, I tend to use speculative and alternative scenarios, create strong atmospheres, and develop complex characters.
