Director Statement

I am not drowning...
The ocean, the swelling power of the water, and the fear of drowning have been strong pulls in my life emotionally and physically. Failing swim lessons and nearly drowning as a child, my life has in many ways been defined by early-life shortcomings and traumas. In an effort to come to terms with my own fear of the water, I sought to make Drowning: a cathartic experience exploring the way relationships and uncontrolled elements affect our understanding of ourselves. Through the journey and empathy of film, I hope others find the strength to face the fears that sit at the center of their life, and can use it to find meaning in the chaos of moving forward.
