Rory Wilson studied acting in London and has worked as an actor for the last 4 years. During this time he began to take an interest in the world behind the camera, the writing, producing and directing. In 2018 Rory made a double release of two short films he directed, 'Cicatrix' and 'Prince Jodie'. Both projects were made on a shoe string budget and with only a skeleton team, testing both patience and perseverance, but offering huge learning curves in how to craft a film and tell a story. Both films performed well, winning at the Berlin Flash Film Festival, Flicks Film Festival, entry into BIFF and various other festivals. Rory aims to continue this momentum of success with his latest film, 'Drop.' which is a defining step up for him as a Director, crafting an intricately structured narrative and working with Edele Lynch of B*Witched.
'There but for fortune, go your or I'. - Joan Baez
'Drop.' was shot over three consecutive days in January of 2019. With a limited crew of three and a tight budget and schedule we knew there was no time to waste. One thing money couldn't buy was the weather, but the film gods were on our side, giving us rain when we wanted rain and sun when we wanted sun!
Getting the family dynamic was a key part of the story and it was great working with Edele Lynch and Stewart Mathers who really invested themselves in the story, both bringing subtlety and understanding to their characters. Edele Lynch is well known for her involvement in the successful Irish girlband B*Witched, and having her involved in the project was a real boost.
The aim of this film was explore responsibility without intent. Can an act of horror be undone if there was no intention, no motivation, without even a conception that grave consequences lay ahead. I also wanted to explore the experience the parents would go through in such an unthinkable scenario, how do they move on, and are they able to accept their son's innocence.
