Oscar-Winner Guy Nattiv directed Walid in A24's feature “Skin” and Walid performed opposite Tony-Nominee Suzanne Bertish in the feature "Mad?" He has two upcoming films, "Magic Hour," alongside Miriam Shor, and “Slingshot” starring Chris Mulkey.

The concert starred Multi-Tony Award nominees and celebrated screen actors Dana Ivey, Brad Oscar, Lesley Ann Warren and Joyce Bulifant, who reprised their roles from the movie.
As seen in the Associated Press, “Walid Chaya is a rising star and voice for the Arab community creating content that empowers and entertains.”
Hello Film Festival,
I am an award-winning Lebanese-American actor and director based in Los Angeles and it is my pleasure to submit to your festival for the first time. Thank you for considering my short film "Driving Ms. Saudi".
This project has a special place in my heart as it combines two strong passions of mine: filmmaking and advocacy for equality. I strongly believe "Driving Ms. Saudi" will be a memorable and moving film at your festival. If selected, I plan to travel to the fest to represent the film and can be available to participate in panels, Q&As or other planned events during festival week.
This short film is based on a stage sketch I also wrote that premiered live in New York City Off-Broadway at The People’s Improv Theater, a famous venue awarded “Best of Comedy” by Time Out New York and “Best Comedy Club” by The Village Voice.
I encourage you to take advantage of this unique opportunity to screen this short and make a powerful statement supporting our mothers, daughters and sisters.
There is a lack of equality between women and men and there needs to be a healthy dialogue so we can progress as a nation and region. We can do this using film, and specifically, "Driving Ms. Saudi".
Are you planning any special events like dedicated screenings, panels or think-tanks with a spotlight on women's rights? If so, this short film could be a perfect match and is a strong conversation starter. I’m happy to provide my support in any way possible.
Saudi women driving is still a sensitive subject and while this is progress we have a ways to go:
- In 2011 a Saudi lady named Manal al-Sharif posted a driving video that received over 700,000 views but was taken off the internet four days later.
- Manal was imprisoned, and later released.
- This ignited the #Women2Drive movement.
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration, I look forward to hearing from you.
-Walid Chaya
