Driftwood

"Driftwood" is an animated short film telling the story of Askr and his beloved driftwood - Askr survives the attack on Pearl Harbor by clinging to a floating driftwood log, but when he’s finally rescued, he refuses to let go, leading to a lifelong relationship of sacrifice and respect.

Director Biography - Christopher Hills Eaton

Chris’s first feature screenplay, PURSUIT, won the ‘Powers Award for Excellence in Screenwriting’ at the 2011 West Field Screenwriting Awards. In 2013, he Executive Produced the documentary BIZARRE: A CIRCUS STORY that premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and was nominated for Best Documentary. In 2021, he Executive Produced the award-winning documentary, "Citizen of Moria," following an Afghani filmmaker as he fled to Greece to avoid persecution from the Taliban.

Chris wrote and directed the short films: SPLIT OAK, which premiered at the 2019 Ojai Film Festival; THE DEED, a semifinalist at the 2021 Wild West Film Fest, and DANCE CARD’S FULL, which premiered in Ojai in 2021. DRIFTWOOD is the fifth short film from Christopher Hills Eaton.

Chris wrote his first screenplay at fifteen years old and has been writing ever since. Simultaneously, to support himself, Chris has been a paralegal, a treatment-free beekeeper, taught and performed at a circus school, worked as an organic strawberry picker in Australia, and an entrepreneur forming his own company, Mystery Tin, where he produces educational card games and his own network of podcasts.

Born in Santa Barbara, California, Chris attended The Thacher School in Ojai, CA, then St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY, where he graduated with a double major in Music and Fine Arts, and a minor in Economics. He later attended Empire College School of Law in Santa Rosa, California.

"Driftwood" was born out of the spirit that connections come in many forms. Inspired by stories like "The Giving Tree," I wanted to explore the role of valuable, meaningful objects in our lives, and how they contribute to how we define ourselves.
