La Dérive

The film called “Troi” (La Dérive) focuses on the life of Ly Hung, an artist who plays traditional instruments on floating market- which UNESCO recognizes as intangible cultural heritage. However, the trade in floating markets is increasingly difficult due to the urbanization of the town. Ly Hung struggles hard to earn a living for his family. In depression, he then ended up turning to an alcoholic and an abusive husband to his wife and children. At the end of the film, a tour promoting traditional folk music came to asked Hung to perform his talent for foreigners to understand about his village’s culture. The film ending opens a possible future for Hung himself and other poor villagers on that floating market.
