Director Biography - Paige Smith, Garrett Smith

PAIGE SMITH is a Production Designer and makeup artist whose love for art started at an early age with theater and ballet. After dancing with the Washington School of Ballet for 16 years, performing in professional ballets such as Swan Lake, Giselle, and The Nutcracker, she hung up her point shoes due to injuries and went off to College to pursue a BA in Communications and a Minor in Human Development. After joining her husband in owning and operating a business for nine years, Paige attended the Makeup Designory (MUD) in NYC completing the Master’s program, specializing in character makeup, injuries, and prosthetic application. She started working as a Production Designer on shorts and feature films, including “Peter Five Eight”, “Social Contract” and “Clowns”. She inspires to keep evolving and refining her art, to design more creative and beautiful characters, sets, and films.

GARRETT SMITH has always been a creator. Since an early age, he has enjoyed art and music, participating in creative groups like Odyssey of the Mind. Although his original plan was to pursue a career in the film industry with an interest in stunt work, he ended up creating his first company in his early 20s, which lead to selling and growing multiple companies - but his ultimate goal was to bring it back to his passion for media. In 2014 Garrett had an opportunity to crossover at a new show on NBC and NBCSN, where he gained extensive experience in general operations. But after spending time with his wife on set, he realized that his excitement lie in the creative freedom of narrative film, and began exploring everything from producing to acting and now directing. With his wife behind him and her experience as a Production Designer, they have teamed up to direct their first short film “Drifters”.

Director Statement

Garrett and Paige wanted their first directing experience to be special and meaningful. Excited to work together, as they have in the past, Garrett spent months searching for the best
story to tell. They found “Drifters” and loved it. The story helps bring a fresh perspective on homelessness instead of what is usually negatively portrayed. They wanted to show even when life is hard, finding simple things like friendship is something money cannot buy. Along with the beautiful (but very hot) location of Key West, they brought the film to life in the 4 days of shooting. We hope to capture not only a very visual film but a story that will shine the light on the struggles, big or small, that everyone has.
