Adil Burak Aydın was born in 1995. He started directing music videos and commercials after his graduation from Istanbul Bilgi University Film and Television Bachelor program. "Dreams, Hopes and Rotating Dolphins” is his first short film. He now lives in Berlin and shooting short films while studying for his Masters.
"Dreams, Hopes, and Rotating Dolphins" is a humorous yet poignant exploration of identity, self-worth, and the human pursuit of societal validation. The film delves into the process of discovering past lives within a fantastical yet bureaucratic framework.
Through Erdi’s internal struggle and Yonca’s existential crisis, I aimed to convey the universal fear of insignificance. The chaotic and comedic energy of the celebration contrasts sharply with Erdi’s quiet unraveling, highlighting the loneliness felt in moments of self-reflection. Yonca’s story challenges societal perceptions of importance, reminding us that our value lies not in who we were but in who we choose to be.
Visually, the film balances the mundane and the surreal. The spinning dolphin loading screen symbolizes the endless cycle of seeking societal approval, while the sound design transitions between the noise of the celebration and moments of quiet tension to reflect Erdi’s internal state.
Ultimately, this film is a story that humorously and emotionally reminds viewers of the importance of embracing oneself and living in the moment.
