Mzamo Bruce (born May 26, 1997) is a South African filmmaker, who wears many hats as a producer, director, creative designer, cinematographer and editor. He is best known for taking part in establishing the first hybrid Television station in Mpumalanga (Rising Sun TV).
Bruce was amongst the Top 20 finalist in the category of international young creatives brought by the iemmys academy in New York City. His short narrative film "free yourself" made him the only South African filmmaker who ever made it to the top 20 international creative finalists in 2021. He was part of the Trace Studio's creative team that develops and produce short and long format content for global film and television markets. He served as a Multi Media Manager at Trace Studios. He is currently developing and producing TV formats, Documentaries and Brand work with Known Associates and Zero Gravity TV.
The creative got his major shine when he collaborated with a clothing brand "Timberland". He wrote, produced and co-directed a short documentary "Dreams" of his collaboration.
I decided to write, produce and direct this special piece of work named D.R.E.A.M.S after i collaborated with a big clothing brand "Timberland". Although the collaboration was strictly about an artwork, i felt the need to document the process and tell a story that is going to live and carry my name even when i pass on from this world.
A shirt alone was not going to do justice in telling the story that was in my mind. since everybody was going to interpret the artwork differently. I thought it was better for me to take the viewers and the consumers of the product to a journey and explain my creative approach, inspirations and also share gratitude to the brand itself. I believe my purpose in life is to do amazing things that would be remembered and get to be seen by generations and generations.
This piece of work is also my introduction to those who really don't know me, where I am from and where I grew up. Best believe that I have written the creative deck, drafted a plan, wrote a script, recorded voice-over, and edited video on my own. I am a very appreciative person that is why I decided to do call upon my mother and friends who have been my pilar of strength to shoot this personal documentary with them so that we can have an ever lasting product together. I wanted to to share my success and rejoice with them.
The look and feel was achieved through a natural low light. I wanted to give viewers the freedom to experience a natural African cinema without any colour disturbance. I am not really a fan of colourful cinema i mostly prefer vintage looks. my look and feel was also inspired by natural vintage looks. I look good natural but i had to add some elements that was going to grasp everybody's attention to look at me. i achieved that by colouring my hair white, to match with the shirt.
The title name D.R.E.A.M.S came from the inspiration of the artwork. It is aligned with the production of this project, every moment felt like I was living my dream at a same time it seemed like I was working on my dreams. This project amaze me because I had creative freedom to turn my vision into this craft.
Time span of production for this project was 6months. it was shot in two provinces of the Southern Africa " Gauteng and Mpumalanga".
