Dream

After being forbidden from seeing them at the hospital, FRANK loses his parents to COVID. The hospital chaplain, who is the only one who shows up at the hazmat-suit funeral, encourages him to step outside his comfort zone. FRANK is an app developer who feels more comfortable around computers than people, who are now are more socially distant than ever. When DICK, a repair man, comes to collect bogus money his parents owed, FRANK believes him and pays him all he can.

FRANK strolls around historic Walden Pond, hoping to find a human connection in the age of social isolation. Loud noises really bother him to the point of making him flee a scene. After a couple of misadventures involving misinterpreting a fisherman’s story of alien abduction, he gets invited to a petting zoo where it is “safe to pet the animals.”

At the petting zoo, FRANK meets DAISY, who is blind. They enjoy petting the animals, picking apples, and staring at each other. DAISY lives at the Carroll Center for the Blind. DAISY surprises FRANK by introducing him to blind fencing, relying on her auditory senses. She shares with FRANK her “dream” of sailing alone. Blind sailors use a visual guide on the boat to navigate but if she ever has one dream it would be to sail on her own. DICK comes back and kidnaps FRANK’s cat as ransom for more money owed by his parents.

FRANK visits his parents’ cemetery and tells them he met someone who sees the “beauty” in him. He begins to experience life and the meaning of love for someone. He uses his computer skills to fuel his passion for her when he takes her out to the movies for the first time in her life after recording a voice that explains the action in the film through audio description. FRANK announces to DAISY he will build an app for her to enable her to go sailing on her own. DAISY’s friends at the Carroll Center as well as herself are skeptical about it but impressed.

Daisy and her blind friends at the Carroll Center call up DICK and pretend to be government officials on the phone to retrieve FRANK’s cat. The cat shows up at FRANK’s door and he is ecstatic and grateful for Daisy’s plan. DAISY vows to FRANK she will never abandon him.

When FRANK and DAISY walk into a street celebration in downtown Boston, the overwhelming sounds of a street drummer scare him as he flees and abandons her in the street. She is lost and her phone is dead, then a homeless bum steals her phone.

FRANK remembers how he was bullied in school for being autistic. DAISY remembers how she was abandoned by her adopted parents when she was little because of her blindness.

FRANK attempts to visit Daisy but her friends tell him that after several tests, she will suffer complete blindness and that the next few months will be the most memorable since she will not see anything after that.

The NURSE that took care of FRANK’s parents before they passed away meets up with him at an abandoned church. She gives him a piece of lifetime advice coming from someone who held many people’s hands in the past few months. She tells him that people have three regrets on their death bed, one of them being not taking enough risk in their lives.

FRANK goes on a quest to build the app that will make DAISY’s dream come true. He tests it in the water blindfolded on a sailing boat.

When FRANK shows up at DAISY’s sail practice with her visual guide, she ignores him and sails away. FRANK texts DAISY and tells her she is the best memory he ever had and to give him a second chance. FRANK visits DAISY who is fencing. She forgives him but not before teaching him how to face his fears by gathering the entire team of blind fencers to surround him and create spooky noises while holding his hand.

DAISY hesitantly goes out with FRANK alone sailing using the app as a guide. They encounter some rough winds, but the app directs them to the right path and together they sail into the sunset.
