Drayden DeCosta is a filmmaker and scholar currently pursuing a PhD in Screen Cultures and Curatorial Studies at Queen's University. Prior to Queen's he earned his BFA (2018) and MFA (2020) in Film, Fine and Media Arts at NSCAD University.
Drayden grew up in the city where rails and water meet, Welland, Ontario, Canada. Many of his narrative preoccupations have been birthed from his experiences growing up in Welland.
Drayden's films are often personal, semi-autobiographical and observational. His films typically revolve around themes of small-town existence/persistence, inexplicable melancholy, aftermath, spiritual solitude/questioning and the clash between the interior and the exterior world.
Through the continued creation, study and exploration of films , Drayden DeCosta wishes to refine his sensibility, producing works that can contribute to the landscape of a Personal and Poetic, Canadian Cinema.
The ghost town
The tall grasses and wildflowers of the outskirts
Clouds solemnly drifting
Echo and flow, above and beyond
Cinema... my life’s blood; the realm of dreams.
