Dr. Craig’s Sophie Dream
Dr. Craig Wright has a passion for turn-of-the-century traditional jazz. This definitive sound characterized by the simultaneous playing of the three lead instruments is often called traditional ragtime jazz. While collecting large quantities of sheet music of this era, Wright harbored a dream of presenting this spirited, early American music with a series of live concerts to today’s audience.
Approaching this endeavor with the same attention he gives to inventing cures for human diseases, Wright comments, “medical research and my dream to resurrect these songs have much in common; both require years of investigation and constant refinement to reach the desired goal.”
Cinematographer Greg Young records “vertia” style as he follows Dr. Craig on his unpredictable journey of successes and challenges in fulfilling his dream—complete with a modern day Sophie Tucker and some of the best ragtime pianists performing today.
