Director Statement

At its core, DOWN TO THE FELT is a story about second chances, loyalty, and the high-stakes nature of redemption. It’s a film that explores how far people are willing to go when their backs are against the wall, not just for survival, but to regain a sense of purpose and dignity. As the director, my vision for this project was to blend the gritty tension of the world of backroom gambling and assassins with the humor and camaraderie of characters who have been dealt a rough hand in life, but never stop fighting for a way out.

This film allowed me to dig into the complexities of human relationships, set against a backdrop of crime and competition. I wanted to create an environment where the audience could feel the stakes—whether they were found in the turn of a card, a fractured relationship, or a risky deal gone wrong. With each character, I wanted to show that the 'felt' of the poker table mirrors the felt of life—soft, yet resilient, and sometimes unforgiving—where every decision can change the outcome in a heartbeat.

My goal was to capture the raw energy of these moments, balancing the tension with levity, and showing that even in the midst of chaos, there's room for laughter and connection. Collaborating with a talented team, we worked to bring a unique blend of action and comedy to life, while staying true to the emotional depth that drives each character's journey. I'm proud to share this film with audiences, as it represents a story not just of risk, but of heart.
