Have your film screened on the other side of the planet in Berlin and/or Copenhagen!

Since 2011, the Down Under Film Festival (DUFF) has been Europe’s leading showcase for Australian and New Zealand cinema, providing a vital platform for fresh, bold, and original storytelling from Down Under. With screenings in Berlin and Copenhagen, DUFF bridges the gap between these extraordinary films and European audiences, bringing their unique cinematic voices to the heart of Europe.

Too few Australian and New Zealand films secure European releases, meaning many audiences miss out on their breathtaking visuals, dark humor, poetic narratives, and distinctive storytelling. DUFF exists to change that. From groundbreaking independent productions to major blockbusters, from student and professional short films to powerful documentaries, the festival celebrates diversity in every form.

Our program spans all genres—drama, comedy, thriller, horror, animation, Indigenous cinema, and experimental works—ensuring there’s something for every film lover. DUFF also collaborates with key industry institutions such as the New Zealand Film Commission, Screen Australia, the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), and the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS), further strengthening the global reach of filmmakers from Down Under.

Join us in Berlin or Copenhagen to experience the very best of Australian and New Zealand cinema—where bold filmmaking meets new audiences.

  • Down Under is a brilliant small festival that I believe will continue to expand across Europe and become larger! It felt like home away from home and was so lovely to see Aussie & Kiwi films being celebrated in Europe. The festival staff treat filmmakers and guests so well. They provide excellent opportunities for networking like with their networking brunch at the embassy. I hope they continue to receive more funding and support so they can expand to more countries across Europe.

Was an honour to have our short film BOTTLE MONEY screen in Berlin at the Down Under Film Festival 2024. Sadly, I could not be there in person, but I love that Mala, Angus and their festival team support NZ and Australian films within Europe.
