Barbara Gonzalez and Yanis Pizarro, both graduates in Digital Animation from the University of the Americas, collaborated on their thesis project, a short film titled "DON'T LOOK" (NO QUIERO MIRAR), which they co-directed. Throughout their studies, they honed their storytelling skills through various projects.
After graduation, Barbara gained experience in art direction and worked as an art assistant, while Yanis expanded her expertise as a freelance character designer and clean-up artist. Both are committed to their continuous growth and development as animators.
"Don't Look" explores the challenges caregivers face and the emotional struggles that often go unnoticed in a society that tends to overlook their experiences. Through the story of a young caregiver, we aim to capture the complexity of his journey, highlighting the profound isolation that can accompany such significant responsibilities at such a young age.
Using animation as a powerful medium that fosters connection, we seek to emphasize the importance of mental health in this context, illustrating the deep emotions involved in caring for loved ones with terminal illnesses, particularly within disadvantaged communities. By doing so, we hope to promote understanding and acceptance of these feelings, creating a space where the voices of caregivers can be heard and validated.
