Jaime Wescoup is a proud Anishinaabe storyteller from Long Plain First Nation and is the proud
recipient of the inaugural Netflix Nu-Media Development 25K pitch 2022.
Jamie was always fascinated with movies, asking his aunties to take him to Gone Hollywood
rental to rent VHS tapes at just 7 years old. Jaime moved around from Portage La Prarie,
Winnipeg and Brandon in his teen years. However it was in High School where Jaime discovered
drama class at Portage Collegiate.
Jaime’s intrigue grew as an adult when he found out about the Nu-Media Program in 2018
however due to his social anxiety of working with others he didn’t sign up for the class until
2021 where he worked up the confidence to join the program.
While in the Nu-Media Education program Jamie wrote, directed, and produced his first short
documentary entitled, Ishkode (Fire Keeper), with Cree Crowchild, under the mentorship of
Erica Daniels from Kejic Productions. Additionally, Jaime worked in various capacities in the Nu
Media program on the 8 short films that was produced that year and his most memorable
memory was shooting a while being interviewed by Netflix.
After completing the Nu-Media Education Program 2022, Jaime, came up with the concept of,
“Restoring Natural Balance”, as the Matriarchs in his life made a big impact. Especially his late
Grandmother, Eva Wescoup, and his many aunties.
Jaime looks forward to beginning development in late 2022 with President , Jordan C. Molaro
(Nu Media Films Inc.) acting as his Executive Producer.
Jaime is an Indigenous up and coming filmmaker and writer with a passion to be the next big director, and is driven by inspiring the people back home in his community.
