Don't Cry For Me - Susan Sontag in Sarajevo

Don't Cry For me Susan Sontag in Sarajevo is dealing with the famous Susan Sontag's arrival in besieged Sarajevo in 1993, where she staged the play Waiting for Godo. Extremely simple documentary form, focusing on interviews with thirteen participants and witnesses of the play, this film presents an extremely emotional account of life in Sarajevo under siege, in which the burst of life was ignited by Susan Sontag. Visually based on black and white photos of two prominent photographers of Sarajevo under Siege - Milomir Kovačević and Paul Lowe this film keeps simplicity as the experience worth to be followed even today, more then 20 years after the siege. "Europe is, and always has been, a place of barbarism, a place of civilization, too" is quote of Susan Sontag, who opens the film Don't cry for me Sarajevo - Susan Sontag in Sarajevo.

Through the memories of the participants, we wanted to highlight the importance that art had for the citizens of Sarajevo. Susan Sontag, who for a reason became an honorary citizen of Sarajevo, always indicated that the phenomenon of that time of war was actually the people she worked with. Susan Sontag, the person they called their last intellectual, was one of the few who realized that what was happening in Sarajevo was the beginning of a new era, and was among the first to say that genocide was taking place in Bosnia and the world must stop. Through the story of her we talk about us and through the story of us we talk about her.
