“Don’t Call Me Friend, I Loved You” is a short film detailing the heartbreak of relationships coming to an end. Recently, I wrote a song called “Don’t Call Me Friend, I Loved You,” about going through a breakup and feeling too strongly about your ex that being friends isn’t possible. This is the premise of the film.
Stylistically, I got a lot of inspiration from Wong Kar-wai, especially his use of step-printing.
This semester, when I was going through relationship heartaches, my surroundings were hazy, my days felt like a blur, and I couldn’t focus on the people when interacted with them. This is the feeling I hoped to emulate in the short film.
