Haydn Thomas is a filmmaker from Wolverhampton - West Midlands, a licensed drone pilot and was named by the Birmingham Mail one of the 30 under 30 most influential people in and around Birmingham. Among making films, Haydn’s reach expands further into the creative sector such as making music videos or creating corporate videos.
Haydn Thomas is also seen as a mentor training the next generation in film and TV as well as being a anti-knife crime campaigner. With a host of skills including Director of photography, Editor, and Producer, Haydn has developed himself as a brand, which is known for creating breath-taking visuals and creative development for other filmmakers.
In Feb 2017 on the day off my mom’s birthday, as she was on the way to her birthday meal, we got a phone call saying my brother was a victim of knife crime. My brother, who is not in any way affiliated with gang or drugs but in fact he was leaving his A-Level revision class, was hit in the head with a machete. Luckily, my brother survived and is doing well but the effects hit our family hard.
Since then I have been trying to use my skills and knowledge in the fight against knife crime.
Making this film is one of my recent projects.
The ethos behind the project is that when people touch on this topic using film they tend to focus on what happens before or the gang / drug aspect, not many people touch upon the aftermath, hence the title Domino Effect, I want people to know that in joining in knife crime or any crime for that matter has a domino effect. You aren’t just affecting the victim but the family, friends, doctors who help them, paramedics, police officers, etc…
Living through and seeing what the domino effect was like within my own family was the inspiration behind the writing and directing of this film.
I made this film with £600 and directed a cast and crew of 25 people, which was the first time I have directed a cast/crew of this size.
It was an amazing experience, my cast and crew said they enjoyed every minute of it which makes me happy as I loved every moment.
