Director Statement

I wrote the story of Yalda influenced by the life of one of my relatives. A woman, although she has been married twice and experienced divorce two times, she was still inexperienced in relationship with men. It seemed that marriage was only a way for her to escape from the family pressures. I spent many days with her, listening to her words, memories and recording her voice. She is like many women of my Generation. Having many traditional restrictions, we couldn't figure out what we really wished for. We were lost and confused. Afraid of being guilty we couldn’t be bold enough to overcome our obstacles.
We often stayed on the wrong path and it took a long time to learn from our mistakes, however many of women from my generation such as the character of my story could make failures instructive and let the discouraging experiences teach them lessons. In my first feature film I wanted to show such a positive change of such a woman.
The first day of the shooting of Domino I was so emotional, as if I couldn't even give my feelings a name, it wasn’t only happiness, stress, passion, fear, worry or pleasure, I was actually experiencing all of them at the same time. I made a film, which I had to take over a large part of its production because of the tight budget. As the shooting continued, my energy and strength were overwhelmed and I felt that everything around me was working miraculously together to do what I wanted. After shooting, I became a normal person again, tired, hungry, thirsty, nervous or angry.
I wish to be always like the days of filming, so strong, tireless and energetic.
