Giorgio Martina is a young (very) independent film-maker. He developed his passion for cinema from the tender age of three and began to love thriller/horror from the age of six when, for the first time, he came in contact with the film "deep red" directed by Dario Argento and was captivated by it. He immediately began to study audiovisual language as a self-taught, experimenting with various shooting and editing techniques with a small mini-dv video camera. He attended, from the age of 14, the Technical Audiovisual Institute of his city and during the 5 years of study he produced several short films in the thriller/horror genre with dramatic overtones with some of which he won national and international awards. After finishing his years of study, he continues to attend several masters courses inherent to cinema (including a master's degree in screenwriting with Lucio Besana, screenwriter of the Italian horror films "The Nest" and "A Classic Horror Story"). As of a couple of years ago, he has been devoting himself more seriously to the production of extremely small-budget independent short films in the hope of being able to leave his job as an office clerk and be able to live solely on what he has always loved most in the world: filmmaking.
"Doll" was born from the idea of transforming what could have been a beautiful love story into a thriller/horror with dramatic overtones, reflecting on some social issues that today more than ever, particularly in my country, touch us deeply: the lack of enough money to be able to start a family and the (unfortunately) very ugly macho view of woman as a creature fit only to satisfy the pleasures and needs of man. Touching, especially on the ending, some grotesque notes, I hope I managed to get the message across that I had in mind while at the same time managing to entertain the viewer. This is the reason why I fell in love with this kind of cinema: the ability to entertain the spectator while in the meantime, under his or her skin, very serious and important messages make their way through.
