Visually inspired by black and white panel cartoons in magazines such as The Saturday Evening Post and The New Yorker, Dog Housecalls is a montage of independent vignettes about the world of a Veterinarian Hospital and its animal inhabitants.

Director Biography - Greg Checketts

Greg Checketts has worked in animation, theatre and education for over 30 years. For the last 14 years, he has been a character layout artist on The Simpsons. Other credits include being a character layout artist on Futurama and a clean up artist on feature films for Warner Bros. (The Iron Giant, Osmosis Jones, and Quest for Camelot), Dreamworks (Spirit and Sinbad), and Disney TV (The Tigger Movie). As an arts educator, he's worked for several years with the Gifted and Talented Program's Conservatory of Fine Arts for the LAUSD. Greg graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in Theatre, and before moving into animation, he worked for several years as a Designer and Scenic Artist for various theatre companies in Michigan and the Washington DC area.

Director Statement

This movie really started out as a dream project for my partner because he got the basic concept of the cartoon from his Dad, who was a doctor, and whom he wanted to honor. After some stops and starts, we really just started making this one day, and it grew organically as we went along. This was a two man project animated largely on typing paper over the process of many years. If it never saw the light of day, I doubt anyone would have been surprised, and that it has still takes me by surprise! And, of course, we were not just two guys, because everybody who collaborated with us along the way, from our voice actors and technicians to our great composer, kept elevating our cartoon which, in turn, inspired us to push on and finish the damn thing.
