Does Healthcare Care? #WHYICARE
This video is about the inspiration I have as a future provider (Physician Assistant) through years of watching my Nonna get neglected and abused by the healthcare field for being "foreign" and not being able to speak English or comprehend things as easily as native English speakers in America. I interviewed 10 different people of various backgrounds and/or identities to discuss with them how they feel about the healthcare system in terms of their own background. Their backgrounds involve various races, color, LGBTQ+ communities, sexual orientations, and those with disabilities. A heartfelt and insightful talk by different members in various communities pleading that the healthcare system needs to start caring more about its patients and not just the disorders and conditions we treat. We are all people and deserve to be treated as such by all fields, especially the healthcare field.
If this video inspires you, share it and use the hashtag #WHYICARE and state why you got into the field you are in and how you propose to make a change - whatever and however that may be.
This video was made for my medical decision making class and in loving memory of my forever Guardian Angel: Italia Gallo Cusati May 21 1939 - July 28 2020
My name is Bryan Bilbao and I am a 26-year-old native of Old Forge, PA that! I am currently in my rotational year of Physician Assistant school and with the Geisinger system for my rotations. My PA school is the Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, PA! I graduate from my program in August 2022. I also am a bilingual first-generation college student born from direct immigrants that are originally from Montevideo, Uruguay.
I currently am continuing with another video project (after being influenced from this video project) and research for my senior capstone project, which I will present in August at my school institution!
The video acquired over 12,000 views on YouTube and is currently being used within my school for cultural sensitivity in healthcare and being promoted to other institutions such as Kings College (Wilkes-Barre, PA), in which students and faculty will be part of my future capstone project.
