Docs Ireland is a new, annual dynamic programme of events showcasing the Irish documentary industry. It’s the first of it's kind in Ireland, run by the team behind Belfast Film Festival, and chaired by award winning, Internationally renowned documentary film maker, Mark Cousins. Doc Fest Ireland will showcase high quality documentaries that will inspire, educate and enliven cultural discourse.

When we at Belfast Film Festival piloted a Irish documentary festival - Pull Focus- in the summer of 2018, we were astounded and delighted as screening after screening sold out – But it makes sense when you realize that documentary is the medium, now more than ever, that helps us make sense of the strange times we are living through.

Docfest will present new and international documentaries, shorts and features, and will host industry events including a marketplace, pitching sessions, masterclasses, new talent focus and funding information events.

As well as our long standing award for Best Observational documentary (The Maysles award) there will be prizes for Best Short Irish Doc and The Pull Focus Award for Best Irish Feature Documentary.

Maysles Award: £1,500
The Pull Focus Award: £2,500
Best Short Doc: £1,000

It was fantastic to have our film 'The Vasectomy Doctor' be a part of the inaugural Docs Ireland fest. The staff were kind and helpful, the screenings well organised and the overall atmosphere was very pleasant and inviting. I think this festival has the potential to become one of the key events on the Irish film calendar.

Grateful that i had my film "The Art of Ubuntu" selected by Docs Ireland. The films were exquisite, speakers brave and documentary market place provided a wonderful opportunity to learn about how to get funding and meet funders. The staff are very warm, friendly and kind. A lot of thought, creativity and hard work has gone into the festival and the Docs Ireland team have done an amazing job. Well done all involved and i wish you all the best for 2020.
