From the sister cities of Juárez/El Paso, I'm a Mexican-American filmmaker living in Austin, Texas. A true believer that film can be an agent of change, I'm interested in exploring, voicing, and supporting Hispanic & Latino stories, which have been historically excluded from the silver screen. I have written, directed, and produced a variety of projects, both in English and Spanish, ranging from narrative fiction, documentaries, advertisements, music videos, and more. My work has been featured in multiple film festivals, showcases, and major sporting events around Mexico and the US.
Comedy has always been a great vessel for uncomfortable topics and subjects. Do Not Disturb offers a satirical, fun, and entertaining approach to the question of “who makes it in Hollywood and why” through the sexual exploration of the main characters. Although from different backgrounds, Isla, a Mexican soap opera actress trying to make it into the American media, and Ryan, an ex-Disney star who wants to be viewed as a more serious actor, want the same thing; to be recognized for their work. Yet, they have noticed that unfortunately, or fortunately for them, the craving from society to poke their noses into other people's lives while being hyper-sexualized could be used to their advantage.
With the film, I want to push forward a conversation about how sexuality and age are linked to “success”, the price of fame, what Hollywood requires of women vs. men, mid-life crises, and the renegotiation of dreams; topics that should not be as awkward or uncomfortable to talk about. This project attempts to not only be a wildly funny and entertaining story but one that will make the viewer reflect on the negative trends that surround the entertainment industry.
