A bittersweet science fiction tale.
With his body seriously failing him, 24yr old Lenny Blake sends out an SOS to his alien friend AL to come and take him to see the wonders of the Universe. With his talisman, a model spaceship named AL1EN, Lenny sets off to the arranged meeting point on a local beach. But with his plan seemingly thwarted by both the Universe (when AL’s spaceship is struck by a piece of space junk), and his younger brother Joe, who is intent on rescuing him, Lenny abandons his spaceship and gives up all hope. Hoping to salvage Lenny’s belief in his alien friend and restore his spirit, Joe sets out to retrieve AL1EN.

Director Statement

Inspired by the bond that exists between brothers, the movie is an examination of existing human conditions and beliefs, and the themes of the power of faith and hope. Lenny Blake, who is suffering from a life-threatening disease, believes in aliens and that he can slip the bonds of Earth and journey out into the Universe, whilst Joe refuses to believe that Lenny can’t be saved and kept on Earth. This short film captures the essential spirit of the feature length script, the comedy, the tragedy, and the existence of life in the beyond.
