DIVA
When lightning hits a person, it sends 300m volts of electricity across the entire body in three milliseconds. It’s more than a jolt. For many, it’s life-ending. And even for those that do survive, the effects are lifelong and unrelenting.
Sharon Apple is a young woman who in a matter of minutes is struck dead and miraculously brought back to life by one single lightning bolt.
As she picks herself up and returns to her life, she’s very obviously not the same. On a daily basis, she struggles with survivor’s guilt, wondering why her life was spared? As she seeks to answer those questions, her friend has questions of her own. Mostly pertaining to the afterlife.

I’ve always been fascinated with the idea of life and death and the fact that what we do here on Earth impacts our afterlife. I wanted to push that idea further and explore what happens when you survive a life-altering event. One where you should have died. It brings up a lot of questions for the survivor like why did I live when so many don’t, what does it mean and what should I be doing with this second shot at a life well-lived. That’s what lead me to the exploration I call DIVA.
