Director Biography - Jacob Parkhurst

My name is Jacob Parkhurst from Tonawanda, New York. I am a graduate with a BA in Television and Film Arts with a minor in Film Studies from Buffalo State College. Ever since I was a young boy, I loved film and would even direct my fellow classmates in elementary school to act out my favorite scenes. My passion and environment with film only continues to evolve and I couldn’t be more excited to see where it takes me.

I wanted to make Dissonance out of personal experience and research during the past year of 2020. This was a year of absolute hell for everyone and the news has been an unrelenting onslaught of negativity. I’ve seen and talked to countless people who have struggled mentally through it all. Many have said that they had to turn off the news because it was taking such a heavy toll on them. As for me and others, we can’t help staying away from the news even if it is all doom and gloom. It becomes an obsession and can be really damaging to the psyche. I made Dissonance to level with those struggling during these hard times and showcase the dangerous effects that constant negative media can have on one’s mental state and the domino effect to those around them.
