Disgrace

"Disgrace" begins with the hysteria of the main character - Wiktoria. She just found out she's
pregnant. She returns home, where her sick Grandpa is waiting for her. He announces the
arrival of Wiktoria's brother - Marcel.
Marcel finds out she's pregnant. It turns out that he is the father of the child. He is pushing for
an abortion, but Wiktoria does not want to perform it. The grandfather finds out about the
grandchildren's true relationship. Wiktoria and Marcel sink into helplessness.
A year later, Wiktoria and Marcel attend Grandpa's funeral. They stand at a safe distance from
each other. Wiktoria is holding her little baby in her arms.

Director Statement

It is a story about a love that is legally and morally forbidden. It shows the love of people with similar experiences, intelligence, and ambitions. Love, which is the characters’ only chance for happiness. The story also touches on social problems such as loneliness and abortion.
Both the characters' incestuous relationship and the consideration of abortion pose many moral, philosophical, and ethical dilemmas to the main character.
The viewer is guided by mystery. Even more than one. Only with time do we discover further elements of the story, which are: the relationship of Wiktoria and Marcel and her pregnancy.
After all, the reality of the characters is the overwhelming emptiness, loneliness, lack of understanding and empathy, as well as selfishness of people who take part in the race for apparent happiness, imposed by social etiquette.
The inspiration for creating this story (apart from my own observations) is mainly: "The Seventh Continent" by Michael Haneke and "Dogtooth" by Yorgos Lanthimos, which perfectly illustrate how disturbing situations can take place behind closed doors of people, that we pass by every day.
