Jake Stevens is an English writer and actor originally from Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. He has a bachelor's degree in Drama and Theatre Studies from Royal Holloway: University of London and is currently studying towards a Master's in Scriptwriting from Goldsmiths: University of London. Jake initially gathered experience as a playwright, having completed seven works - one placing highly in the 2020 National Theatre New Views competition, and another receiving a readthrough by actors in training at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. Dirtface is his first short film, and he is concurrently working towards his debut feature film, Tether. Behind the scenes, Jake can typically be found prancing around like a gremlin in improvisational comedy performances, acting in various short films and theatre shows, and tidying his vast collection of obscure indie video game music.
I have always been passionate for stories that blend the boundaries between adulthood and childhood, mostly due to my own nostalgia for memories and friendships past. Sometimes I sound like I think I'm seventy years old, but I do believe that youth is the driving force of what makes us human, and that we should protect and encourage it. Dirtface emerged as an inverse of the typical optimistic, nourishing coming-of-age stories that I loved growing up, framing characters who lose sight of their youth until it explodes dangerously in their face. I hope it can serve as a twisted reminder for the joys of living in the moment, the harms of holding grudges and the perils of greed and corruption.
